The Song Remains The Same

At long last, the PS2 Cowboy Bebop "movie" is unleashed on the public. Seeing the first new Bebop project since the movie was reward enough for me, but I'd love it if a lot of people saw this. Spread the word!

Special thanks again to [info]nekoewen  and [info]_thiefofhearts_  for making this possible.

I still hope we will show it at fanime! I tried to watch it on You Tube but I hate how you can only put 9 min per video on there.

I dunno, it did well at this year's Fanime, but it clearly won't become a cult thing like ReDeath. Maybe if Fanime does like a machinima room/block or some Bebop-themed thing, I can sneak it in.

As for YouTube, I did at least position the breaks as strategically as I could. I probably will release the whole thing on a torrent as soon as I can find an encoder that A.) deinterlaces well and B.) makes something my PS3 can read (any suggestions?). And of course, I will master it to DVD as well. Though as I told some friends, it makes me sad that due to its source this movie will never look as good as it does in interlaced 4:3 on any other display.

I can do that for you if you like or you can get ConvertXtoDVD which is the software that Jerry and I used for converting to dvd 2 years ago for Fanime.

Perhaps I should IM you more details? heh

Converting to DVD is not a problem, the version screened at Fanime was off DVD and it looks great. I'm trying to find the best encoder for making a DivX/XviD/H264 or whatever's best for online distribution via BitTorrent.

For the YouTube version, I created DVDs for each of the eleven "parts" and ripped them to H264 .mp4 files in Handbrake. I used Handbrake because I liked its deinterlacer and it let me crop the image to eliminate the black borders around the image. However, the resulting files are not playable on my PS3. Not even Handbrakes XviD files seem to work, and XviD's supposed to work with everything. Handbrake does have a PS3 preset which I haven't tried yet, but my concern is how compatible that would be with other media players.

My source footage is 720x480 interlaced DV video.

Cool I didn't know you have access to OS X, have you tried VirtualHub at all?

If you got the bandwith and let me have a crack at it, you could dump your file on my public folder.

No I'm using XP, Handbrake works with that too.

Hmmm, the master files are around 12 GB, that'd be quite a move. Plus, I'll have to make new masters for the online release, since the YouTube one is formatted for 4:3 display. I'd like the torrent release to be in widescreen which would require repositioning the subtitles (which currently exist as burned-on titles generated in Adobe Premiere). I'm going to try to extract the Premiere subs to a more conventonal sub file via SubRip.

ick wow didn't know it was that huge and that there is a version of handbreak for windows. Well sounds like you figured out how you want to do
it. Tho would Bandai/Namco get pissed if you had this torrent or do you think it would make the game finally released out here? Hmm perhaps for the PSP since all PS2 games seem to recycle there?

One of my delusions of grandeur is that maybe this thing could lead to a US release of the game. But the game was released in Japan in 2005, the US release was supposed to happen in early 2006, if something was going to happen, it would have by now. I don't feel too guilty putting this out there for those who alwyas wanted to see it.
